Wangan Midnight

Wangan Midnight come to life-action movie.. Its starts as a japanese manga (comics) written & illustrated by Michiharu Kusunoki-san since 1991..

INTRODUCTION

The story gets its roots from the actual street racing that occurs on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway, one stretch of which is known as the "Wangan" — literally meaning "bay side" although it is generally used to refer to the freeway — the longest, straightest road in the entire country.

There is also road traffic to contend with, including a fair number of heavy trucks. Because of this, the action is inherently hazardous, and wrecks are common. Blown engines are also a frequent hazard, especially with the extremely high power engines.

One day, Akio Asakura, a high school student who is in his last year of study, is driving his Fairlady Z (Z31) when he challenges Tatsuya Shima, a doctor, in his black Porsche 911 Turbo (964), nicknamed the "BlackBird". With his friend in the passenger seat and two girls in the back, Akio attempts to win, but is defeated. Determined to become faster, he goes to the junkyard because his mechanic friend tells him he saw a wrecked Fairlady S30 just like Akio wanted.

When he sees the damaged midnight blue Fairlady Z (S30) in the junkyard, he remembers seeing this car a few years ago with a nice girl in the passenger seat. Intrigued as to why such a classic Japanese performance vehicle is about to be junked, he convinces the junkyard owner to sell it to him. The junkyard owner was told by the previous owner to scrap the car because it is cursed. He soon finds that the car is unnaturally fast due to a tuned L28 engine, bored and stroked to 3.1 L and fitted with twin turbos. He also finds that the one of the car's previous owners shares his first and last name, and had died in a horrible crash on the Wangan. Every person who takes possession of the Z ends up spinning out of control and crashing, as if the car is rebelling against its driver. This gives the blue Z the nickname "The Devil Z".

The manga follows Akio's various encounters with people on the Wangan, though the central plot revolves around his constant battle with the BlackBird for Wangan superiority.

Manabu Orido-superb racing driver

Manabu "MAX" Orido is a japanese racing driver who currently complete in Japan Super GT series for Toyota Team Tsuchiya, driving a Lexus IS 350.

Orido began his racing career as a street racer and then progressed to touge racing. After years of one make series, he first appeared in the JGTC series in 1996 and won the GT300 title for the following year, up until the 2000 season when he moved up to GT500 he took three wins altogether and has since taken two GT500 wins to date. Orido competed in two Grand National Division,West Series races in 1999. He finished eigthteenth at Irwindale Speedway, and thirtieth at Twin Ring Motegi. He was also the D1 Grand Prix judge from the start of the series to the end of the 2004, when he became driver for that following season until his drifting driver career ended when his Toyota Supra was destroyed in a transportation accident en route to Advan Drift Meeting when it was hit from behind driven by a sleeping truck driver. Orido currently teaches safety driving at NATS (Nihon Automobile High Technical School). Because of his appearance in video series such as Video Option and Hot Version, Orido has become a fan favorite in the Super GT series.

Until 2006, Orido always drove the Supra in Super GT as he personally owns one as well as using it for drifting events, despite being disadvantaged in the latter.
